This week, Dr. Ivor van Heerden, of LSU's Hurricane Center, shows the two things that can be done, aside from building better levees, to prevent a Katrina rerun.

By shinenola on January 21, 2008, at 1:11PM PST "Optimism".  It's a beautiful thing and necessity around New Orleans and the region if you don't wanna lose your marbles and implode.  You have to truly believe it, see that the current situations did not manifest overnight so they certainly ain't gonna change in one.  Those who do believe know what's upon us here in New Orleans now..... nothing is going to stop what's before us, except mother nature perhaps  No matter how hard I and all my neighbors work we are the #3.  #1: Wetlands #2. Levees #3. Commerce.  Belief in the future also means addressing reality.  The people here do what they can for our tomorrow.  What have you done for American's down here?  Visited since the storm?  If not come on down and bring all your pals with you.  I'll meet you for a drink at the Blacksmith Shop.  Word.  ;)

By rodgerma on October 31, 2007, at 7:36PM PST I didn't know that. Nor that, or that.... Great journalism Harry. The whole matter is pretty damn depressing, so it was good to hear van Heerden being an optimist after all. Hope he keeps his job. He seems to be the right guy for the job.
