By Daddyeaux on December 20, 2007, at 8:34PM PST Dear Harry!  Merry Christmas!  I am Gary Holland and a founding Father of The Chalmation Nation ( an era of fine folks from Chalmette,LA which you must have been a resident long enough to know about us! Yes?)
I am huge fan and have worked in the film industry as a production sound mixer with Jacques Cousteau then I was in the H'wood Industry for 18 yrs, now back with Jean Michele Cousteau.  We are looking to remake a film we did about 28 years ago on the Mississippi and I need to have a strong input this time around!  The first time I was a kid and to in awe of being around a hero of mine to strike out hard for myself.  I am very intrigued by your post Katrina videos ( i happened to lose my dear Mother to that storm and I want some payback) by telling the full Mississippi story from the eons of meandering all through Cajun / Atchafalaya land to the Corps. induced channeling it now is being forced to follow without replenishing the wetlands it built over all of those eons!  Please write to me and let's see if we can do some good together.  I have and idea you may like and it could very well be effective for change and educating the public on what the future of messing with Mother Nature can be!  Please take the time to write back so I can at least know your feelings on this prospect.  Fondly,  Gary Holland

By johnnycakes on December 20, 2007, at 12:40AM PST I really enjoy the response to the "Why come back?" question.  Unfortunately, there's no soft way to put my favorite answer (attributed to a favorite musician, and no direct offense intended to anyone else, but it is how I feel): "New Orleans will survive because we hate your food and we hate your music", and I would add that we hate your neighbors, and love ours, whether they be young families or "noble" crackheads.

By joadi on November 12, 2007, at 3:21PM PST Great series!  We can use all the help we can get telling the world we are alive & well & aren't going to give up.  I am born & raised in New Awlins & will never leave.  Unless you've lived here, you can't explain that to anyone.  There's no place like it & no spirit like that of a true New Orleanian.  Nice to know you're one too.  Keep up the good work & thanks.

By alison on November 12, 2007, at 11:33AM PST Dear Mr. Harry,
These stories are beautiful.  I love NOLA and I have a hard time going out of town now because I get so homesick and scared that it won't be here when I return.  The furthest away I can seem to get is Sandestin for a few days every now and then.  Keep these stories coming.  Thank you so much.  Love,
    Ali
