By LAyellowdog on June 28, 2008, at 1:21PM PST So Bush proved his in competence by appointing a Qudestryin hoarse trainer the head of FEMA. Are we stunned when New Orleans fell by the waist sides when it came to Federal priorities 3 years later. The Army-Core should of had a handle on this problem with the Maintenance of the Levee's three years ago.
By ramblinrosie on February 3, 2008, at 11:47AM PST So, where's the Big Man, Ray Nagin, in all this now? I mean, who's the current scapegoat for why N.O. isn't getting it's act back together as quickly as what's necessary?
By ramblinrosie on February 3, 2008, at 11:45AM PST by the way, my earlier posted comments, pertain to white people that I have dealt with -not black people in Mississippi.
By ramblinrosie on February 3, 2008, at 11:43AM PST I visited the Mississippi Gulf Coast often before Katrina, and since then. I can tell you that too many of the people there were incompentent, lazy, and uncaring before the hurricane. They don't return a call, they install something and then don't fix it when it doesn't work right, they give out contracts to their own family members but don't expect the work to be done right, and they ARE SOAKING THE REST OF THE TAXPAYING COUNTRY TO MAKE THEMSELVES WHOLE UNTIL THE NEXT HURRICANE WIPES THEM OUT AGAIN! I recall an early report in Mississippi that said that people were spending their FEMA emergency checks on jewelry, guns, and leather coats. Yeah, can't do without those items, can we? Face it, too much of the South gets way too much federal money given the porportion they actually pay into the federal government. And too many in the South still expect a hand-out over working. Guess all that preaching about taking responsibility for oneself applies to everyone else in America at election time. I recall when Ohio lost 230,000 jobs. No one declared that state a disaster for rebuilding. Didn't see anymore federal dollars flow in to help those 230,000 families. Guess it was all their fault they lost those jobs, eh?
By twistedsoul on June 4, 2008, at 4:23PM PST lets break this down just a little bit. "they don't return a call" that's a bit odd. perhaps a white person broke up with you? (considering your later posts you made it abundantly clear that it was white people that chaps your ass). "they give out contracts to their own family members but don't expect the work to be done right" that's a pretty bold statement. i'm only surmising you work for some kind of remodeling company, and you were declined because people wanted to help out their own families by giving them the jobs so that everyone here benefits from the outcome. but i'm sure you'll say you didn't get the job because you're black. that's what all people say when they don't get their way. they revert to a race card to make them feel like it's not their fault because they're stupid. you visited mississippi and people are using their money to buy stuff they don't need. granted, that's true. however, are you implying that the people of new orleans aren't doing the same? you'd be a liar to say that it only happens in mississippi. you're just upset that you didn't get a job down here with your specific skill set. also, you're pretty stupid. the people of ohio still had their houses and possessions. the people in south MS kinda had their homes and other belongings removed by a silly thing called tidal surge, rising water, and falling trees/wind damage. you're probably from NOLA, and that says a lot already about your character.
By RjJayJohanson on January 16, 2008, at 6:49AM PST So what? From the air it looks like Venice.
By PMA3568 on January 15, 2008, at 10:18PM PST Hey Harry thanks for help. As a citizen born and raised in the metro NOLA, I do not blame the Army Corp of engineers for the levees breaking. If you think about it, out of a hundred of miles of levees only 3 failed and one was because of a barge. I will take those odds over and over again.
By amiroler on January 15, 2008, at 5:51PM PST wagstaff - New Orleans is not below sea level. New Orleans was built where it was because it was the first area above sea level at the near the mouth of the Mississippi. We can say the same thing about Los Angeles or San Fransico - why live there and wait for the next big earthquake because we know it is going to happen.
By Blogger1947 on January 15, 2008, at 5:49PM PST "Helping the citizens rebuild" does not mean having workers on the federal payroll bust their asses, assisted by volunteers from all over the country, while some of the "citizens" are loafing in Galveston, and others are sitting at home too lazy even to pick up the rubbish off their own front lawns. The MUSICIANS of New Orleans have worked their asses off to get their scene back together. Why can't the rest of the town help itself better?
By motvet on January 21, 2008, at 3:40AM PST how's that going for u people?
By wagstaff on January 15, 2008, at 10:34AM PST Build a city below sea level and that what happens when a CAT 4 just misses you. One day News Orleans will be hit directly by a CAT 5 and nothing will save it. Isn't it sort of stupid considering the odds are high than within 100 years New Orleans will be destroyed?
