Just back from a 3-city, 3-day work trip. I missed blogging for the first time while we hit our single biggest traffic day ever at My Damn Channel. Harry Shearer's "Found Objects" are exclusive looks at footage you're not supposed to see. The response to yesterday's Katie Couric clip brought one million uniques to our site in less than 24 hours. It's still climbing. Everyone loves Katie. I think they'll love Bill O'Riley & Ann Coulter less when Harry's next "Found Objects" hits our site. Here's Katie if you want to watch & share the luv: http://www.mydamnchannel.com/channel.aspx?episode=367

Several celebrities, from Rosie O'Donnell to Oprah Winfrey, have embraced the Internet with personal success. And a handful have taken it a step beyond, launching general video websites that feature content from many sources. Among them:
-FunnyOrDie.com, cofounded by actor Will Ferrell, writer/director Adam McKay and writer Chris Henchy.
-Channelme.tv, in which talk show host Carson Daly is a partner, provides tools for people to create video-centric social networking pages.
-DanceJam.com, co-founded by MC Hammer, is slated to launch this month with dance videos.
-MyDamnChannel.com, a website for "artists to co-produce, distribute and monetize original, episodic video content," according to the site, boasts channel providers including actor/writer Harry Shearer, actor/comedian David Wain and musician/record producer Don Was. |

I'm not breaking down Bonaduce today, or bringing up My Damn Channel....I'm dreaming about my Dad on the third anniversary of his last day chasing dreams. Irwin Morton Barnett started off with two crappy names. When I tell you his mother's first name, you'll realize this was a guy who had a lot to overcome while growing up in depression and poverty in New York.
Grandma Ukie was a ball buster. She married a kind, quiet man named Stanley Barnett and proceeded to give hell to her husband and son every chance she had. Somewhere inside a painful childhood, my father developed a deep desire to rise up out of repression and fight back with skills to market, brand, and promote Irwin Morton Barnett as I.M.B. He became an ad man able to conjure up commercial campaigns for clients that included airlines, foreign countries, radio stations, and tourist destinations.
My dad became a big success - a big man in his own mind - and in his belly too. When he was as old as I am now, my father was sometimes mistaken on the streets of New York for Pavarotti. He perceived these mistakes a badge of honor, rather than as putdowns. This was a man extremely over-conscious of his own brand - always wanting to be considered a rainmaker, an influential power-broker.
Three years ago, my dad died a broken man. Massive business success in the sixties and seventies led to extravagances that poisoned his spirit and took his health. My father never did drugs and rarely sipped wine, but he became hooked on money, on power, and on winning. Self-made roads led to self-obsessed dead ends. Passengers on the journey got swept up in the race - and a series of crashes wounded unsuspecting participants and bystanders.
When he died on this January night in 2005, my dad and I had been estranged for several years. As I sit awake in the middle of 'the night feed' tonight with my 12 week-old son, and my wife and two daughters sound asleep, I’m praying that pain releases the past. I’m praying that my dad’s story informs the future for all of us that follow in his family.
His story taught us to never to demand victory, but how to balance highs and lows. His hard times remind us life is supposed to be a team sport. Victories and losses have more meaning when they’re shared with people you trust. Treasure is tainted if it’s not shared. I’ve finally found words to thank my dad for all the good, the strength, and the creative commitment that inspired him to conjure up magic out of little more than dreams. I honor a man who fell in love with my mom and gave me life and love. This was a guy who showed me how to create substance from dreams and I’m dreaming that his hardworking soul is finally at peace.

My Damn Channel / CES kickoff party in Vegas last night. Mr. Milonakis shoots our video for "I Love Vegas" produced by Don Was & featuring Perez Hilton.
A few months back, internal stats on My Damn Channel consistently began to prove that our biggest viewing hours started at 12Noon & went through to 2pm.
Lunchtime/Desktime is the place where humans are eating an average of 2 videos a day.
We shared the ideas & the stats with one of the better bloggers we know. Brian Stelter is: http://tvdecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/. He writes for the paper as well. The Times found that many of our brothers and sisters are finding the same results. Here's more...on page one of today's Times.

Barack Obama,
Iowa Caucuses on 1/4/2008 9:08:00 PM by Rob Barnett
Was it just one night? Sounds like a bad Phil Collins song - but I stayed up late last night - did the 'night feed' with the twins - watching all the coverage I could get on the Iowhoppin'.
Was it just one night? Or did the possibility of positive energy & a more honest politic squelch every cynical pundit on the tube. The talking heads still sound like they're ga-ga over Obama 24 hours later. It's surprising and fun to watch.
Left my oldest daughter a voicemail early this morning to share some of the rush. So much idealism was attacked and literally murdered over 40 years ago....the caucuses felt like a night when the country was willing to hit the reset button.
Washington has spewed lies for so long that the well of optimism and the hope of the great candidate was almost entirely evaporated. New voters are about to get their first glimpse at how an inspired, gifted leader could turn one good night into four better years ahead. I'm onboard.

Shooting extremely twisted video this Sunday night at our CES opening night party in Vegas inside the Palms hotel. Don Was is producing. Andy Milonakis is Andy-ing. The rest is going to have to get down on tape to be real. Guest stars abound. Just saw an early cut of our new 'soap opera' series: HORRIBLE PEOPLE. Created by A.D. Miles.
Cookin' with Coolio is in pre-production in LA.
Getting early cuts of our first animated series: INVASION and our new BEDTIME STORIES series from creator, Steve Kerper. He will launch the CARNIVAL OF STUFF channel coming up. His "HAPPY HANNUKAH" video blew up &
made it into our Top 10 of 07.
Enough of us - another co-con deserves a standing ovation:
Filmmaker/Comedian to Live in IKEA Store for an Entire Week- Media Invited Tuesday, Jan 8 at 1pm
NEW YORK – Mark Malkoff, a filmmaker and comedian whose video "171 Starbucks" documented his visits to all of the coffee chain's Manhattan stores in a single day, will live in an IKEA store in Paramus, N.J., for an entire week starting Monday, Jan. 7.
"My apartment has to be fumigated and I need to move out for several days," said Malkoff, 31. "All of my friends have tiny studio apartments. Hotels in the city are too expensive. My apartment is 80 percent IKEA products anyway. Moving into an IKEA store makes sense."
Miraculously, IKEA has agreed to let Malkoff live in its Paramus store for the week. Each night, Malkoff will post a video recap of his day at www.MarkLivesInIKEA.com, which will be up beginning Jan. 7.
"This isn't a commercial for IKEA," Malkoff said. "They are not paying me to do this. To me, it made sense for my living circumstance and I thought it would make an interesting video. IKEA is giving me 100 percent creative control of the video content, which is pretty amazing."
Malkoff is best known for his video "171 Starbucks," in which he is shown visiting and consuming purchases at each of the ubiquitous coffee chain's locations in Manhattan in a single day. The stunt landed Malkoff on the "Today" show and on CNN, and made him the butt of one of Jay Leno's monologue jokes.
MEDIA ARE INVITED TO MARK'S BEDROOM SET IN IKEA IN PARAMUS, N.J., ON TUESDAY, JAN. 8, AT 1 P.M. PLEASE RSVP TO mark@markmalkoff.com
Location: For Press Inquires:
IKEA Mark Malkoff
100 Ikea Dr. (646) 207-0728 (cell)

Mark Malkoff is a comedian, writer and filmmaker. He has appeared as a guest on the "Today” show, CNN, Fox News Channel, ABC News, and Fox Business Network. He's also written for Radar Magazine and Steve Schirripa's talk show pilot for Fox. In July 2007, he produced and starred in a popular short video in which he visited and consumed purchases at all 171 Starbucks locations in Manhattan in one day. It can be viewed at www.171starbucks.com. Mark currently works as the audience coordinator on Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report." You can check out his work at www.markmalkoff.com

"The great thing is to last and get your work done, and see and hear and understand and write when there is something that you know and not before and not too damn much afterwards."
