It's WAINing again - Wainy Days shoots Season 5

Ken Marino, Jon Stern, Rob Barnett, David Wain

WAINY DAYS first launched on day 1 of My Damn Channel: 7/31/07. David and I knew each other a lil bit from the salad daze at MTV. He saw the future when he and the Michaels created STELLA shorts...back when it took a year and half to buffer a 3-minute clip.

I promised David he could do the original series he wanted without the typical network interruptus, "notes" and meddling. We'd deliver cash, massive promotion and distribution to reach his fans and make WAINY DAYS the premiere series of our (almost) TV network of the future.

David pitched a show where his character would make out with the hottest women in Hollywood and have every date go horribly wrong. I said 'yes.' We locked the right price for the first season of 10 episodes. And I asked David to promise to cast this show as well as he casted his latest feature film back then, THE TEN.

32 official episodes, 4 years, and 4 seasons later, you've watched and shared WAINY DAYS to make it the longest-running, most-popular comedy series in the new world.

This week, we're filming an all-new season 5 with another killer cast including David & Ken Marino, who co-wrote the new episodes and Exec Produces with David & our beloved series producer, Jon Stern. This year's cast also features Steven Weber, Zandy Hartig, Jorma Taccone, Erinn Hayes, Lizzy Caplan, n' more.

We have a brand new sponsor: FIAT !

We'll post more updates and pics and announce a premiere date sooner than you think.

While I have you for this too-happy-too-long post: please n'joy the trailer for David's brand new feature film: WANDERLUST - opening FEB 24 2012 !

Can Chris Meloni Appear in a Wainy Days Episode, Please?

David Wain tweeted this tribute to Chris Meloni's Wet Hot American Summer character, "Gene From the Kitchen" this morning. And it made us think... why hasn't Chris Meloni appeared in an episode of Wainy Days yet? His Law & Order contract is up pretty soon... so we imagine he'll have a lot more time on his hands... so maybe...right? Right?!

And who else belongs in an episode of Wainy Days? Leave me a comment!

Thanks, Just For Laughs

We're still recovering from a raucous weekend in Montreal.  We were there for Just For Laughs and much laughter was had, indeed.

There was an amazing speech from Marc Maron that The Comic's Comic has in its entirety:

Fearless leader/Founder/CEO Rob Barnett spoke on a bunch of panels:

We gave away a bunch of t-shirts:

And then David Wain got a bunch of his friends together and they did a live Wainy Days show:

So, you know, good times.  Thanks to Jeffrey Ross, Garfunkle and Oates, CEO Rob Barnett, Rob Corddry, Zandy Hartig, Jon Stern, Reggie Watts (unpictured) and, most of all, David Wain for making Montreal a little more Wainy for one weekend.

Happy Birthday David Wain and Coolio!

Yesterday was OUR birthday, today is the birthday of two My Damn Channel stars: David Wain and Coolio!

Did we know this when we started working with them? No!

Does this mean anything to anyone but us? No!

Are we glad that these things all seem relevant enough to put into a single blog post? Yes! Yes! A thousand times, yes!

In honor of the anniversaries of their birth, here are our (my) favorite Wainy Days and Cookin' With Coolio episodes:

"Donna"

and "Caprese Salad"

Happy Birthday to everyone who has a birthday to today-- even if you aren't a successful comedian/writer/director/cult-comedy icon or a rapper/actor/chef/juggalo!

Wet Hot American Decade

People forget how much the world has changed in the last decade.  Blogs, social networking, web video.  All of these post-Y2K innovations have radically altered the way we interact with the world—particularly the world of entertainment.  You may not remember, but back before there was such a thing as forward-thinking online content providers, there were literally only two ways to entertain oneself: by 1) burning the effigy of a rival tribal leader, or 2) firing up the ol' top-loading VCR to watch a battered VHS copy of David Wain's cult summer camp spoof Wet Hot American Summer.

Yes, long before Wainy Days was even a twinkle in the director's eye, Wet Hot showcased Wain's unique brand of unpredictable, absurdist humor, and featured a cast that now seems like a murderers’ row of the most important comedic performers of the early 21st century.

(Leslie Knope [L], and Johnny Limitless [R])

Some, like Paul Rudd and Elizabeth Banks, have turned up on Wainy Days; while others, like A.D. Miles, have gone on to create their very own (excellent) series like Horrible People.

To celebrate the film’s 10th anniversary, David Wain & Co. have mounted a nation-wide tour, featuring screenings, Q&A's, and live shows.  To wit, here's David Wain and Wet Hot co-star Jo Lo Truglio revisiting some alternate titles for the film.  And if you're jonesing for even more of Wain live, don't forget to check out the Wainy Days live show at this year's Just For Laughs.  And remember: if you wanna smear mud on your ass, smear mud on your ass, just be honest about it.

NTSF:SD:SUV:: Premiere

The hilarious new National Terrorism Strike Force: San Diego: Sport Utility Vehicle, aka NTSF:SD:SUV:: premieres tonight on Adult Swim with the epic first episode, “Mexican Space Shuttle.”  So break out the no-doze, because when the clock strikes 12:15 am, NTSF:SD:SVU:: will go from being a fictional television show on the hospital drama spoof Childrens Hospital to real-life police procedural spoof. To put it simply, NTSF:SD:SUV is to CSI what Childrens Hospital is to Grey’s Anatomy.

Like the show it spun off of, NTSF:SD:SUV:: (whose full title looks like it belongs in the now-defunct analogies section of the SATs) is chock full of performers who are no stranger to My Damn Channel.  For example, here's NTSF cast member Martin Starr getting all his teeth knocked out by David Wain.  Plus, Executive Producer Jonathan Stern is one of the men responsible for both Wainy Days and Horrible People, writing and directing a number of Wainy Days episodes, including this one.

So watch it every Thursday night at 12:15am on Adult Swim!

Beat the Heat, Watch on Repeat

As we inch into mid-July and the gunpowder from Independence Day fireworks finally dissipates and settles on the ground like an ashy, foul-smelling snow, it comes time once again to face the fact that, like it or not, it's Summer.  For some, summer means long, lazy days spent at the beach or in the park, full of barbeques, bikinis, and melty ice cream cones.  These people are are insane madmen who are not to be trusted.  For the rest of us, summer is a time to stay indoors and near the air conditioning, cowering away from the sun like it was some kind of vengeful God.

Point is, it's hot out there.  Why not stay indoors and expand the depth and breadth of your pop culture acumen by doing a few complete-series re-watches of your favorite shows?  And sure, you could plow through your box set of 'The Sopranos' or 'The Wire' for the umpteenth time, but given the brain-boiling heat outside, wouldn't you prefer something a little more... digestible?  Might we suggest starting with Season One, Episode One of Wainy Days and working your way through the entire series?  Or Pilot Season?  Or Back on Topps?

It's easy, just pour yourself a nice cool glass of Four Loko, aim that oscillating fan at your genitals, click play, and check another one of your life's goals off the list.

Give Birth to Laughter

You know that stern, older woman who lived in your house when you were growing up?  The one who cooked all your meals, did your laundry, and threw away all the porno she found under your bed while vacuuming? The woman who always got into lengthy shouting matches with your father over finances, and who spent long afternoon after long afternoon quietly sitting on the couch, surrounded by the chaos of her household, drinking zinfandel and staring off into the middle distance? Remember her?

That was Ms. Ana, your nanny.

The woman who paid Ms. Ana to do all those things was your mother. And guess what Sunday is? That’s right: Mother’s Day.

What’s that? You demand My Damn Channel videos with an extremely tenuous link to a Mothers’ Day theme? Well don’t worry, YOU WILL NOT BE DENIED.

Everyone’s favorite newly-minted American, Gigi, falls for a very pretty, very pregnant library patron, played by Gigi star Josh Gad’s real-life wife, Ida Darvish.

Two grown children of an eccentric, mostly awful dead actress try to figure out what made their mom tick in the new series Versailles, premiering Monday!

And last but not least, David Wain shoves a new mother to the ground and tries to drown her baby. Spoilers.

So show a little respect, you little shit, and send the old crone a card. Who knows? Maybe she’ll write you back into the will after all.

"Wainy Days" - Kissed Again

There'd be NO My Damn Channel if David Wain hadn't said YES to being one of the first artists that launched with us here on "day one" (7/31/07) with the very first episode of "Wainy Days" starring David & Elizabeth Banks.

4 seasons and almost 4 years later - there are 32 awesome episodes (so far) and this morning another well-deserved kiss:

"Wainy Days" has just been selected as an Official Honoree for Comedy Series in the 15th annual Webby Awards.

Congratulations to David, to our most awesome Producer, Jon Stern, and to every collaborator and fan supporting one of the best comedy series ever.

We promise MORE...and work has just begun on a "Wainy Days" DVD coming out later this year near the release of David's new feature film comedy, "Wanderlust."

April Fools' Day Fools

It's April 1st today, aka April Fools' Day, aka the most frustrating day of the year.  It's the only day of the year when the average U.S. citizen gets to experience all the perks of being a paranoid schizophrenic: not trusting anyone, disbelieving your own eyes, thinking everyone is out to get you, etc.  It's a total nightmare.

But we assume that you, the loyal Night Feed reader, is, on average, WAY too smart to fall for any of that type of shenanigoats.  So instead of insulting your intelligence, we just thought we'd point you toward this great prank from our pals over at Stella, and remind you that David Wain's Wanderlust will be in theaters later this year.

And while we're at it, why not check in with the goings-on over at Back on Topps, Horrible People, and Status Kill?  Hopefully they'll make you feel a little bit better about your own foolishness.  Zots and Crambles!
