Don Was is a Super Producer Who Brings Us Superstars

Did you guys see Don Was on American Idol last season as Jimmy Iovine's right-hand man? Don is a super producer who works with superstars like Bonnie Raitt, Elton John and The Rolling Stones, and now he's bringing us an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the recording session for a "Personal Revolution," a song from the legendary Ziggy Marley's latest album, Wild and Free.

We have nothing else to say but that you should STOP DOING WHATEVER ELSE YOU'RE DOING AND WATCH THIS VIDEO RIGHT NOW.

Thanks. Now you can go about the rest of your day feeling good about yourself since you've already treated yourself to something awesome.

Attention music fans - cool things happening in the world of our resident Producer/Hero, Don Was

Don recently sent us a great video of the first single from Mexican rocker, Saul Hernandez. The song is called "Molecular", and not only will the melody be stuck in your head, but the video documentation of the in-studio experience is as awesome as it gets. Saul's album, produced by Don Was, will be released in May and is his first solo record after fronting the Mexican rock band Caifanes

Speaking of Caifanes, they reunited this weekend at the Coachella music festival in Indio, CA. It was a huge moment for the fans of these Rock en Español pioneers and one of the biggest reunion acts at the festival this year.

Watch Don's vlog about working with Saul, then check out the music video and turn it up!

FREE COUNTRY, FREE MUSIC

Happy 4th!

The method to our madness at My Damn Channel has always been simple. We put independent artists we love & trust in charge of their own channels to bring you free comedy & music.

Don Was conjured up mighty free magic with the release of "Stand by Me," a new version of the Ben E. King classic - made for the people of Iran - by Iranian superstar Andy, Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, John Shanks, Don Was & friends.

"Stand by Me" is only one week old today and we're closing in on the first million views worldwide! THANK YOU for sharing this song and video and free mp3 and for moving it across continents and into Iran.

Here's the first, in-depth interview with Don about how this all came about by Nicole Sandler.  (giving me trouble on IE - fine on Safari?! - must need more beer)

Nicole has one of the most impressive careers in radio. She's broadcast on some of the best music radio stations across the country. A true music fan with fine taste. You can find Nicole talking music, politics and more on Air America and we also recommend her blog at RadioOrNot.com.

Nicole spoke with Don Was about putting together the "Stand by Me" project - about Was (Not Was) - and about creating, producing and curating the Wasmopolitan Cavalcade of Recorded Music here on My Damn Channel.

LOOK WHO'S IN THE MIDDLE

6/24/09: Don Was, Richie Sambora, Andy Madadian, HIM, Jon Bon Jovi, John Shanks

Most people know us for bringing the laffs. Don Was is the man that brings the music to My Damn Channel.

We've been in awe of the way his latest inspired idea has taken off in the past 48 hours.

"Stand by Me" is spreading like wild. THANK YOU ALL for turning this idea into action. And thank you for getting this inside Iran.

Media coverage is insane. There are soulful responses pouring in from emails, tweets, calls, facebook, video comments, the YouTube community, and every site taking this free video and mp3 and making the music move.

We just watched & stopped the video at 1:12 & found the MYSTERY & well...the funny.

Look who's in the middle! Look how many people are in the photo. Let 'the Kevin Bacon game' begin.

Experienced an honor & a thrill a few weeks back in LA. Don Was invited me to visit one of his recording sessions at Henson Recording Studios in LA. The Muppets lair is the former home of the old A&M Records. The site was first known as Charlie Chaplin's movie studio at the turn of the last century.

The Wasmopolitan Cavalcade of Recorded Music is the My Damn Channel house that Don Was built. We're incredibly lucky bastards to have this man creating new music for your ears and eyes.

Today's brand new music is featured on our home page is from Todd Snider. If you're uninitiated, get to his music & his live shows.

We're on the road this weekend with Brother Don to film on location at Detroit's Concert of Colors. Check back here this summer for this live music supporting a most worthy event.

If you're in the Detroit area, or can get there - this weekend's shows are all free.

Don Was Detroit Super Session is LIVE this Sunday night at the Max M. Fisher Music Center in Detroit.

COMING UPs

First, let's clean up a rumor. As far as we know, Keith Richards was (not) at the Was (Not Was) gig last night. His 'people' were there. So was Paul McGuinness, manager of the little four piece rock band, U2.

If you wuz not at the Blender Theatre in NYC, you missed one of the funkiest, tightest nights of dance grooves in a dog's age. Was (Not Was) is essential live music medicine. SEE THIS TOURBUY THIS ALBUM. Here's a clip from Wednesday night in Boston of their BADASS Temptations cover.

Here's what's in the My Damn Channel pipeline.

ANDY MILONAKIS shot a short film for us with JASON MEWES (Clerks & more) - premiering next week with a chance for you to create alternate endings to their oddly artful piece o' cinema.

HARRY SHEARER is about to shoot a new My Damn Channel video and stick another swift boot in the ass of the sitting President of the United States. More on this next week.

DAVID WAIN is about to start filming Season 3 of WAINY DAYS next week!!!  Debuting in June. Rumors that Elizabeth Banks is returning as "Shelly."
