Florida Republican Debate You WEREN'T Supposed To See

HEY! That's not Wolf Blitzer!

Actor/author/director/satirist/musician/radio host Harry Shearer's found footage of the CNN team prepping for the Florida Republican Debate using civilians as stand-ins for the candidates might be the best thing to happen to the GOP Debate since Michele Bachmann took the longest pee break ever.

Newt Gingrich is looking decidedly more feminine since the last time we saw him. When the petite redheaded woman introduces herself as "Newt Gingrich" and proclaims "I just ran a marathon before I got here," Fake Wolf Blitzer chuckles and her fellow faux candidates smile.

Could they possibly find her more charming than the real thing?

Hey GOP Candidates, relax a little! Slip into something more comfortable! Let your hair down!



That's more like it. Now how about we whistle the National Anthem?

Harry Shearer’s “935 Lies” World Premieres Today

 

New York, NY – May 13, 2008 – My Damn Channel World Premieres Harry Shearer’s music video, “935 Lies” today. The song is from Harry Shearer's forthcoming record "Songs of the Bushmen."  See it here.
 

Harry Shearer is an actor, author, director, satirist, musician, radio host, playwright, multi-media artist and record label owner. His work is inside the heads of millions worldwide from The Simpsons, This is Spinal Tap, Le Show, and Saturday Night Live. Shearer plunged into the online universe to become a cornerstone of My Damn Channel.  Each week, Shearer unveils a new political or pop culture satire on his own branded channel.

 

“935 Lies” is filmed in what looks like a corporate meeting held by the publishers of "Modern Liar" magazine. Shearer enumerates, with what looks like either pride or insensate rage, some of the almost one thousand falsehoods uttered by Bush Administration leaders that led us to war.  Oddly, as he does so, he sings about other notable things that come in bunches of a thousand.  And food is served.

 

According to The Center for Public Integrity, “President George W. Bush and seven of his administration's top officials, including Vice President Dick Cheney, National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, made at least 935 false statements in the two years following September 11, 2001, about the national security threat posed by Saddam Hussein's Iraq.”

 

Harry Shearer said, “If it just helps us all to be better liars in our own lives, this damn war will have been worth it.”

HEADLINING VEGAS

Thanks to the NAB and especially to Ashley Howell, Chris Marlowe, and Rochelle Winters for inviting us to present in Vegas yesterday. Thanks to Jon Healey from the LA Times for moderating - and to Harry Shearer & Andy Milonakis for making the trip.

We filled a room of about 350-400 humans and started by showing a few of our original videos. Fun seeing hundreds LOL at YSAP - up on a huge megascreen - and cool to see a crowd feel the bass of music produced by Don Was.

CBS News started a new YouTube chan nel over the weekend for its primary election coverage.But the CBS anchorwoman used the debut to get a little personal with those who make fun of her on the Internet video site."Hello YouTube viewers," she begins. "You know, it's nice to be on YouTube for a change when I know the cameras are rolling."Then, smiling and shaking her finger at the camera she adds: "Harry Shearer, I'm going to get you!"Shearer, a former "Saturday Night Live" cast member and voice on "The Simpsons," is one of the originators of "My Damn Channel," another Internet site that last year posted two videos of Couric talking when she thought the cameras were off. On one tape, she makes fun of her predecessor Dan Rather.

On the most recent one, posted last month, she is seen at the anchor desk on the night of the New Hampshire primary complaining about her clip-on microphone, cursing and joking with her crew about how Rudolph Giuliani's campaign was dead.

 Both tapes were presumably intercepted from satellite transmissions between CBS and its affiliates and never intended to air on TV.

Couric's retort to Shearer appears to put him on notice that she is watching him - and may try a prank of her own in the future.

Just back from a 3-city, 3-day work trip. I missed blogging for the first time while we hit our single biggest traffic day ever at My Damn Channel. JUST ONE NIGHT?

Was it just one night? Sounds like a bad Phil Collins song - but I stayed up late last night - did the 'night feed' with the twins - watching all the coverage I could get on the Iowhoppin'. Was it just one night? Or did the possibility of positive energy & a more honest politic squelch every cynical pundit on the tube. The talking heads still sound like they're ga-ga over Obama 24 hours later. It's surprising and fun to watch. Left my oldest daughter a voicemail early this morning to share some of the rush. So much idealism was attacked and literally murdered over 40 years ago....the caucuses felt like a night when the country was willing to hit the reset button. Washington has spewed lies for so long that the well of optimism and the hope of the great candidate was almost entirely evaporated. New voters are about to get their first glimpse at how an inspired, gifted leader could turn one good night into four better years ahead. I'm onboard.
