It's an historic day on planet earth. We salute every family who's suffered terror. We salute our President. We salute every woman and man serving freedom on the frontlines of a war that goes on.

We'll continue to entertain you at My Damn Channel as we honor and praise what's right and what's just.

"Justice has been done." (President Barack Obama, 5.1.11)

Millions dreaming en masse
The sun comes up for a second time today

Church bells ring
Cynics take a holiday

Hate sits down
A General buys drinks at the bar

Seventeen degrees of burning passion light a fire

DYLAN ON OBAMA

Posted in Bob Dylan, Obama with tags Bob Dylan, Barack Obama on 6/6/2008 3:28:00 AM by Rob Barnett

The Times of London spoke to Bob Dylan on tour in Denmark.

"Well, you know right now America is in a state of upheaval," he says.

"Poverty is demoralising. You can't expect people to have the virtue of purity when they are poor. But we've got this guy out there now who is redefining the nature of politics from the ground up...Barack Obama.

He's redefining what a politician is, so we'll have to see how things play out.

Am I hopeful? Yes, I'm hopeful that things might change. Some things are going to have to.

"You should always take the best from the past, leave the worst back there and go forward into the future."

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Posted in Obama with tags Barack Obama, Stanley Ann Durham Soetoro on 6/4/2008 6:18:00 AM by Rob Barnett

I put our children to bed just one night - five months ago, feeling the real possibility that Barack Obama could be the next President after Iowa.

Last night was an historic moment. Here's a photo and a prayer - in respect for the work ahead - and for what happens next.

Stanley Ann Dunham Soetoro is the mother of President hopeful and Senator Barack Obama. Born in 1942 in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, Stanley Ann Dunham attended the University of Hawaii in the late 1950's. It was during her study in UH that Ann Dunham met Barack Obama's father Kenyan student Barack Obama Sr. and got engaged, and later married at an age of 18 in 1960.  Ann Dunham and Barack Obama Sr. divorced in 1965, when he left for Harvard University to continue his education. In 1967 when Barack Obama was 3 years old, Ann Dunham married Indonesian student in UH Lolo Soetoro, so that's why there was a "Soetoro" in Dunham's name. Dunham and Soetoro divorced in the late 1970s. In 1992, the 50-year-old Stanley Ann Dunham earned a Ph.D. in anthropology for her 1067-pages-long dissertation Peasant blacksmithing in Indonesia: Surviving and Thriving Against All Odds from the University of Hawai'i. Ann Dunham died in 1995 of ovarian cancer and uterine cancer at the age of 52. In A Free-Spirited Wanderer Who Set Obama’s Path, New York Times reporter Janny Scott writes a biography on Stanley Ann Dunham Soetoro.

JUST ONE NIGHT?

Posted in Obama, Presidential, Press with tags Barack Obama, Iowa Caucuses on 1/4/2008 9:08:00 PM by Rob Barnett

obama.jpg Was it just one night? Sounds like a bad Phil Collins song - but I stayed up late last night - did the 'night feed' with the twins - watching all the coverage I could get on the Iowhoppin'. Was it just one night? Or did the possibility of positive energy & a more honest politic squelch every cynical pundit on the tube. The talking heads still sound like they're ga-ga over Obama 24 hours later. It's surprising and fun to watch. Left my oldest daughter a voicemail early this morning to share some of the rush. So much idealism was attacked and literally murdered over 40 years ago....the caucuses felt like a night when the country was willing to hit the reset button. Washington has spewed lies for so long that the well of optimism and the hope of the great candidate was almost entirely evaporated. New voters are about to get their first glimpse at how an inspired, gifted leader could turn one good night into four better years ahead. I'm onboard.
