Rob Barnett's My Damn Channel gives TV creators something they've always wanted: ownership.

By Dr_Pimento on May 18, 2008, at 10:32AM PST Forbes writes, "The story will probably end with Barnett selling out to a big media company. He probably won't get a billion dollars, but it will be a small victory for the artistic soul."

Point #1: I predicted the same outcome here:  http://blog.mydamnchannel.com/2007/12/27/no-secret/#comments  wherein I wrote (BTW, you guys didn't move the comments over --not the ones you allowed to stay up anyway  ;)  ):

"There’s really only one successful way out of that kind of arrangement and you and I both know what it is: eventually selling up the food chain."

Point #2: How is such a result "a small victory for the artistic soul?" This conclusion is non sequitur defined sitting as it does at this end of this article.

Point #3: This post of yours is not as transparent as you think:

    http://www.mydamnchannel.com/blog/milk_away_998.aspx

Point #4: Read this article about web business models and the laws of the marketplace. All of it. Porn is the canary in the mine, baby.

    http://www.portfolio.com/culture-lifestyle/culture-inc/arts/2007/10/15/YouPorn-Vivid-Entertainment-Profile

In the equation that is MV = X * P (Market Value equal "x" times profit where "x" is a big number), x no longer approaches 100 when it comes to web properties and it will soon have a hard time exceeding 10 unless you are a _real_ threat to a bigger property or find someone with too much money and too little brains.

Do you know the old joke that ends in "a million flies can't be wrong?" What do a million hits to something free signify? Nobody really knows.... yet. Time will tell.

It's tough out there, my friend. Good luck.

By RobBarnett on May 18, 2008, at 6:37PM PST The good doctor is in. Forbes put their own spin out there. Our mission has always been to have enough to create. Thank you for keeping track and keeping tabs. That train left the station. Others have fallen, but we've made the business work. Worst thing we could do is 'die.' Second worst thing would be to get too 'fat' or too 'big.' The best business equation here keeps costs down - quality UP - creative freedom primary. Sponsors and worthy co-cons are 'sharing' the 'milkshakes.' No Daniel Plainviews around here.
