    as for "woman behind the man," don't forget that in musical theater, it's more like the man behind the man.

    If one is magical, does that make one a magician?

    If so, maybe the one whose name is an Anglicized version of a French word is the magician.

    If not, perhaps the magician is the one, as you like to cite, who is one letter removed (an oddly tenuous connection) from a waverider of mass culture popularity.

    If the dork is the magician, then David Copperfield's position as chairman of the geek wing of the Illusionist's Guild is in peril.
