In honor of Fourth of July, America's Independence Day, I'm honoring American Things We (I) Love:

America (the band)

Everyone loves this band. Really, most people love "A Horse With No Name" because it was in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. But I listened to that song on many a long car ride with my parents (my parents love lite rock, what can I say?) and my tiny childhood self spent hours trying to work out the logic of that song:

"A horse with no name? How do you call it over to you?"
"Why the hell were you in a desert?"
"Did you at least have water for the horse?"
"I mean, if you're not going to care enough about the horse to give it a name I hope you cared enough to give him some water."
"Doesn't 'cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain' translate into correct grammar as 'Nobody is there to give you pain?' Then why didn't you just SAY that?"
