Dan St. Germain is one of the funniest stand-up comics on the scene today, so it's no wonder that a lot of great things have been happening to him lately.  First, he just taped a Comedy Central half hour special - that's good news for a stand-up (duh, lol).  Second, he signed a deal with Comedy Central that includes a script deal for a sitcom.  BOOM!  You can read more about it in this interview Dan did with Splitsider.

What're the kids listening to nowadays, that's what I want to know.  I feel so old and jaded by this point.  I remember when Bach was penning his first minuets; I remember when John, Paul, George and Ringo were touching down in NYC for the first time.  I remember what it was like when the Goo Goo Dolls sang "And I don't want the world to see me/'Cause I don't think that they'd understand."  I remember when Rick Moranis was still in the public eye --

Wait.  What's that?  Rick Moranis is releasing….A NEW ALBUM?  He is?  Sweet!  Oh boy, this is good news.  Ever since he retired from the movie business or whatever since shrinking and blowing up his kids, the masterful comic actor Rick Moranis has all but disappeared, aside from releasing his debut LP The Agoraphobic Cowboy, a country tinged quasi-comedy LP, in 2005.  That album's much better than you might think it is, too.  It's actually quite good:  Moranis is a good musician and smart songwriter, as well as a fantastic actor.

So, the new album is called My Mother's Brisket & Other Love Songs and you can pre-order it at RickMoranis.com on May 21st.  I'm excited.  Will it be the album of the year?  Probably not.  But Rick Moranis is a treasure, and any gift he wants to give us mortals, whether it be a CD or a haircut, I'm stoked about it.

P.S. - After publishing this blog post, I read that the Chicago based label Drag City is releasing an Andy Kaufman comedy album.  His first!  Wow.  Good stuff in the comedy record business today!

The 2012 NFL season begins today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Yes, my excitement is worth 18 exclamation points) My co-workers Dean and Chris are un-American and don't care about football so it's up to me, a red-blooded American alpha male to share some reasons why everyone should be excited about the 2012 NFL season.

 1)    Beer and Wings - On Sundays during the football season it’s socially acceptable to eat as many wings and drink as much beer as you want. People don't merely look the other way like they do when you eat wings in church on Sunday; they actually EXPECT this indulgence. Hell, even my mom has absolutely no problem with me polluting my body with fat and alcohol (by which I mean she has no tolerance for me polluting my body with fat and alcohol).

 2)    Fantasy Football – Not only do you get a chance to root for your favorite pro team every week, you also get to act as the head coach of your very own fantasy team: playing against your friends, spewing insults like “You suck!” or “I am better than you!” at them across crowded bars.  Remember, it’s all about the pageantry, folks.

3)    You’ll get to watch funny Daily Grace videos about football, like this one from last season, where she shows how much she knows about the sport: Nothing.  Grace knows nothing about football. Nothing.

4)    Because you never know if something ridiculous like this will happen.  Or a disgusting act, such as this.  Or this. 

5) Most importantly, tonight the defending Super Bowl Champions-- my beloved New York Giants-– face off against their division rivals, the Dallas Cowboys. So even if you’re not interested in the game itself, it might warm you to know that somewhere in New York, hunkered down with beer and wings (remember: this is socially accepted behavior during football season) I’m screaming my lungs out, cheering for my team like a crazy person.  You gotta respect the passion, no!?

Hey everyone!  Good news!  My Damn Channel is teaming up with our close friend, writer and producer Eric Kaplan (The Big Bang Theory, Futurama) and his studio Mirari Films to create a new, wonderful show called Love Me Cat.  

Wait...WHAT THE HECK IS THAT THING?  THAT'S A CAT?

It sure is.  Love Me Cat is a is a feral cat who grew up in a dumpster and was adopted by a family who made him intelligent through a combination of science, voodoo, and magic. Although his family cared for him like their own, their compassion came with a steep price – they planned to neuter him. But with the tacit support of the family's father, Love Me Cat escaped into the world where he is hiding out in a garage in North Hollywood. His only hope is to learn how to be loved, so he can survive and some day reproduce. His path to love is through his YouTube channel and his show, Love Me Cat.

Wait...A CAT HOSTS A SHOW??

He sure does!  Love Me Cat is a talk show, in the format of Conan or The Tonight Show, hosted by, you guessed, Love Me Cat.  In each episode, Love Me Cat and his sidekick talk to celebrity guests about love, sex, what it’s like to be a human (and a cat) in a lonely society where we must be loved to survive.

Life can be pretty hard to navigate - kind of like an RPG.  Sometimes there are a lot of obstacles - kind of like a turn based strategy game.  Any which way you slice it, life can sometimes feel like World 8 of Super Mario Bros. 3.

Oh my god, last night's episode of The Office - the series finale - was so absolutely incredible I can't even put it into words but I am going to try my best.  <<DEEP BREATH>> …Okay, here we go.

First of all the part where Jim and Pam decide to leave Scranton in order to experience Canada was a bold choice and I loved it.  The argument they initially had was tense but also hilarious: Who knew Pam had that kind of a mouth on her?  Really funny when she let Jim have it - and sexy.

Dwight.  Dwight, Dwight, Dwight.  DWIGHT!  He will forever be one of my favorite characters in television history, and last night absolutely cemented his reputation as being so.  Utterly.  Hilarious.  Let me ask you a question:  Who writes this show?  Just tell me who the writers are so I can give them big old bear hugs!  They nailed it!  I mean, Dwight taking that boombox and throwing it into the ocean?  With the CD still in it?  The very CD they needed to nail their final presentation to the big execs?  Well, that's dramatic irony for you!  TEARS OF LAUGHTER.  Tears!

I could go on and one about each character: the gay one, the other guy who says one line an episode that's soooooo good always, The Hangover dude Ed Phelps, that hot red head (I love me the red heads, eh?  Eh??  Slappa da bass, eh????  Haha sorry, Rashida!  You'll find a man one day LOL)…There were moments on moments on moments of funny, moving stuff from every character.  But nothing compares to the big moment.  You know what I'm talking about…

Michael.  Scott.  MICHAEL FREAKIN' SCOTT!  I can't believe they had him descend from the ceiling singing "Nessun Dorma" - so so so so funny I peed my pants!  They had to bring back Michael Scott, and they did.  A+ job right there, guys.  You gave the people what they wanted.  And when Michael pulled out that gun and pretended to kill himself in order to make Dwight feel better about losing the CD in the ocean and then Jim finally connected with Dwight only to discover that Michael's suicide was fake?  And then the entire office cheered and hugged until BAM! they cut to black, end of series? And then they played "Don't Stop Believin'" over the end credits??  I laughed, I cried, it was better than Cats!  It was better than….ANYTHING IN THE ENTIRE WORLD, EVER!  

All in all, it was a great end to a great series.  From season one, episode one, to final season, final episode, I had such a great time.  Thank you to everyone involved with The Office for making life a bit brighter.  Oh, and don't worry, Ryan: a lot of people have HPV ;)

As a Knicks fan, I would really like to commiserate with you that it really feels like tonight will be the night that the Knicks will be eliminated from the NBA playoffs - or, if not tonight, and they manage to salvage a win from the Pacers, then in game 6 for sure, they will be gone.  But this is a comedy website so I'm not going to write about sports and how I feel that the Knicks have been playing boring, uninspired basketball.

Instead, let's talk about Woody Allen, legendary Knicks fan!  He's a comedian, right?  He has been involved in comedy, right? (LOL, I know he has)  I'll just talk about him and how he's included many Knicks references throughout his films and how he has been attending Knicks games since the 1960s (probably wearing that same, now grimy, hat he always is sporting at the games - see picture above).  He's a legend of comedy and a legend at Madison Square Garden!  So I will celebrate the genius of Woody Allen today, in hopes that it will help the Knicks chances tonight.
