New York Comic Con has come and gone, and I'm still recovering from lack of sleep, but that isn't going to stop me from telling you all of the exciting NYCC news!
-The last we heard of Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim was at San Diego's Comic Con this summer, until now. Del Toro was advised not to show footage ever again, but in his own words "I just don't give a f*ck!" And let me tell you, I'm glad he didn't give a f*ck, because it was awesome! He also announced a comic book tie-in that will give a little back story to Pacific Rim, which will be released a month before the movie. If you're a fan of Godzilla, Power Rangers, or just robots fighting monsters in general, you'll want to keep your eyes out for this one.
-Oh. My. Glob. I was able to get my hands on the new Adventure Time DS game, Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why'd You Steal Our Garbage?!, and it was great. From the looks of it, Adventure Time DS (is what I'll be calling it for short) will have a top down view for the map and a side scroller view for the combat part of the game, much like Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. If you're a huge Adventure Time fan like I am, you'll be excited that they're also releasing a Collectors Edition of the game that features a case that looks like the Enchiridion, an 8-bit map of the Land of Ooo, a DS stylist that is shaped like Finn's Sword, and a Book of Beasts, all for $10 extra. That's a lumpin' steal!
-Continuing with the video game news, I also got my hands on the reboot of Tomb Raider. What I was able to play was obviously an mid-production version of the game, so things seemed a little clunky. Even the texture of the game, such as the leaves on trees, seemed to be a little blocky and pixelated. With that said, the gameplay is what redeemed itself. In this particular demo we found Lara escaping from some mysterious natives of the island she crash landed on and making her way down a mountain side and into a forest. Most of what I played played out like Uncharted, prompting me to press buttons as Lara scrambled to catch herself from falling off a cliff. I was also prompted to hunt for deer using a bow and arrow, but there were no examples of how combat would be played out against enemies.
For more NYCC coverage, be sure to come back on Wednesday for MegaBeth on the show floor!
